INVOLVED POSITION OVER INTER-PRO. DATES (From Our Resident Reporter J WELLINGTON, Thursday. Intervention by the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association seems likely to follow any protest against the action of the Wellington L.T.A. in holding up matches for the Wilding Shield and Nunneley Casket next month. Rules of the Wilding Shield competition are that the challenged association may vary the date only seven days before or after the suggested date, and the Auckland Association, which has challenged for the Wilding Shield, has suggested January 2 4 and 25. The New Zealand championships begin on Monday, January 27, and so varying the date* that way is impossible. Wellington has suggested playing the matches on January 18 and 20, the day before the local champions!'ips begin, but the X.Z.L.T.A. has already intimated that as the Wellington championships are likely to attract only a small entry, it should be possible to start a day earlier or finish a day earlier and thus play the challenge matches on January 23 and 24. In tlie meantime, a second challenge has been received for the Nunneley Casket, this time from Auckland, and the position urgently needs definition.
