Horses Under Orders For The Holidays
LEAVING RICCARTON TRACK PREPARATIONS Special to THE SIX CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. Track work at Ricearton this morning provided little of interest. The majority of gallopers were restricted to easy tasks and included among those who did not gallop were the contingent of six horses under orders for Auckland. Dutch Money also went fast during her five-furlong scurry, and Semper Paratus showed that he was in form by beating Full Feather over five furlongs in 1.2 4-5. Number six grass and the plough tracks were available, but trainers preferred to send their charges on the plough, which is in excellent ortler. An Early Winner Dutch Money’s five furlongs in 1.2 1-5 was a smart gallop. The daughter of Paper Money looks a different filly now than when she competed at Ashburton, and with average luck she should win a race during her campaign in the South. Quarterdeck was treated to light exercise. She is now owned and trained by R. Adamson, who purchased her during the week-end from Sir George Clifford. She will make her next appearance at the West Coast fixture. Marsham and Gay Crest ran a strong seven furlongs in 1.32 3-5, and for the last three furlongs of his work Tariff recorded 38 4-5. Courtlike sprang a surprise by defeating Tcheka over six furlongs # in 1.16 2-5. which was the best effort of the morning over that distance. As Courtlike has had only one race since she entered H. Nurse’s stable, it was a very satisfactory effort on her part, especially as she finished with a little in hand. It is very evident that she has done well lately and nothing is more certain than that she will win a race at the West Coast meetings. Honour’s Double Semper Paratus, who is often mistaken for Honour on the track, has previously shown speed on the tracks, but soreness has prevented him from showing his best on several occasions. His form at the New Zealand Cup carnival was nothing to enthuse over, but if he improves upon 1 1 is five-fur-long gallop at Ricearton this morning he should be dangerous in his Manawatu engagements to-day. Ele had Full Feather, winner of the Jockey Club Handicap in the fast time of I. 4-5. as a companion, but lie proved too speedy for that horse, beating him over five furlongs in the smart time of 1.2 4-5. Semper Paratus will probably leave for Manawatu at the end of the week with other members of H. Cutts’s team. For Manawatu Cup Hoylake ran right up to his best form during a seven-furlong gallop, which occupied 1.30 4-5. The imported horse looks a picture of fitness, and if he repeats his Ricearton form in his Manawatu and Marton engagements he should prove a formidable rival for the opposition he will meet. T. Lloyd will take him north on Saturday with Night Dew and P has tar. Eric Manson has been retained to ride Dr. Louisson’s horses in their immediate engagements. Scrambler scampered over four furlongs in 52 3-5. She will be railed to the West Coast on Monday next, with her stable mates Tariff and Quarterdeck. A gallop that created a most favourable impression was that of Phastar, who easily accounted for Night Dew oyer six furlongs in. 1.17 2-5. Rangiawhio galloped seven furlongs in 1.36, and over a furlong less After Ten defeated Wrigley in 1.19 1-5. Best In the Early ‘Morning If Danthonia could be relied upon to run up to his track form he would *vin races. This morning he sped over seven furlongs in 1.31, and was not distressed afterward. Since he entered J. Pearson’s stable he has been put to hurdling and he may win a jumping event with experience at one of the minor fixtures. Arikiwai and Coroner left five furlongs behind in 1.3 2-5, and Turnover beat Huntley over six in 1.17 2-5. Toper© and Waihemo ran six furlongs in 1.21 2-5, and for his five furlongs spurt subdivision recorded in 1.4 2-5. Hurly Burly did a strong working gallop over six furlongs, and Proud Knight did well to get to the end of four furlongs in 49 3-5. F\ Christmas’s team (Zeuxis, Flair, Garvary and Diseordia) were given strong work. They leave for the Coast on Monday. Coupling led Thurso at the end of six furlongs in 2-5. Coupling has been galloping exceptionally well of late, and with C. Emerson up at Dunedin he -will be hard to beat. He will leave for the South on Sunday with Thurso, in charge of R. Longley. After fulfilling their Dunedin engagements the pair will then go on to Waikouaiti. Moratorium and Sea Raid did useful work. They leave for the West Coast on Monday. Don Jose galloped -0 furlongs at. three-quarter pace. The Archery gliding looks remarkably fit and it will be indeed surprising if he fails to get on the winning list during the holidays. He leaves for the Manawatu meeting on Friday with Noteworthy and Silver Coot. After the Manawatu fixture the trio will compete at the Wairarapa meeting. Noteworthy sprinted half a mile in 60 2-5, and over a furlong further Silver Coot was given strong work. R. Stratton will ride Noteworthy at Manawatu, and T. Metcalfe will be on Don Jose and Silver Coot. Nightmarch was given striding work. Troilus (I. Tilson) and Mime (D. Hall) jumped two hurdles, but Mime gave by far the better showing.
