FLAMING THEATRE
New Civic Lighting Makes Brilliant Spectacle IMPRESSIONS OF FIRE IMPRESSIONS of a City fire were gained in the suburbs, especially at Devonport, on Monday evening and again last evening when the new Civic Theatre in Queen Street was outlined in red lighting. The outside lighting effect is most striking, the whole of the building being outlined in flame-coloured, gas-lit tubes, while further lighting marks the prominent parts of the theatre. Pedestrians and motorists in Queen Street stopped and gazed at the brilliant spectacle, and during the whole time that the theatre was illuminated a crowd was present to admire. Even when Royalty has visited this City or when some event of jubilation has been celebrated, no more attractive building display has been seen, and it is small wonder that so much interest was aroused. From Devonport it is stated that the lighting effect gave the impression of a huge fire in some part of the City, and one person was so much perturbed that the telephone was set abuzzing to ascertain what building was on fire.
