ANNUAL PRIZE-GIVING
CEREMONY AT KING’S SCHOOL “The thing which tells in life is character, and the foundation of character in boys is the basis of church schools such as this,” said Archbishop Averill at the annual prize-giving ceremony of King’s School, held in the Remuera Library Hall yesterday afternoon. The Archbishop went on to say that boys were sent to school not only to bw crammed with facts, but to be trained to take their proper place in life. The Rev. J. Q. T. Castle, in his report, said that the work and the general tone of the establishment was appreciably higher this year than it bad ever been before. The chapel w.is the real driving and moulding force of the school. fcdx boys had gained proficiency certificates anti three had t-iuulified for competency in the recent examinations. The 'Rev. H. K. Archdall, headmaster of King’s College, congratuL r ai Mr. Castle and his staff on the year’s work, and thanked the Archbishop and Airs. Averill, who presented the prizes, for their presence. Pike's prizes).— Si uior School, K. M. Wilson: Middle School, F. I). Collins; Junior School, E. T. Giles. Elocution.—McNair Medal: D. Y. Cameron. Miss Bruce’s prize: J. Mcl. Ewen. Music (Mrs. Moren’s prize).—D. C. D. Cooke. .Bayly Prize.—A. R. Batley. Special Prize for Useful Service.—J. R. Abbott. Athletic Prizes.—Cups, senior championship, J. W. Gunn: jumping, A. R.
