MRS. H. DOUGLAS WELCOMED BY WAIKATO CLUB RETURN FROM OVERSEAS Mrs. Hugh Douglas, who for the first three years of its existence was president of the Waikato Lyceum Club, and who has recently returned from abroad, was the guest of honour at a delightful party on Thursday evening, when the club members met to welcome her home. The lounge was most attractive with brass bowls of pink sweet peas, lilies and blue delphiniums. Mrs. F. Jolly, the club president, received Dr. and Mrs. Douglas, and presented Mrs. Douglas, who is now the club’s patron, with a charming bouquet. Immediately all sang “For She is a Jolly Good Fellow.” Mrs. Douglas, wh<j was most enthusiastically received, then offered a few words of appreciation for her homecoming, spoke of several Lyceum Clubs abroad that she had visited. Next followed some musical items. Pianoforte solos were given by Mrs. H. J. McMullen and Miss Frau Jolly, songs by Mrs. A. Sims and Miss Seal, and a recitation by Mrs. W. A. Green. DrDouglas also gave an amusing little talk on his travels. There were two presentations to the club made during the evening. Mrs. Douglas brought a lovely brass vase from Egypt and Mrs. H. Valder, on behalf of the Arts Circle, presented a fine study in oisl, the work of Miss Ida Carey. Following was a clever play entitled “A Man’s Job,” written by a club member, Mrs. W r . J. Stevens. The parts were read as follow: Mrs. Stokes, Mrs. N. C. Ziman: Mr. Henry Stokes, Mr. N. C. Ziman; Great Aunt Sarah, Mrs. Kaber Harrison: Isobel Groves, Mrs. F. Bullock; Betty Groves, Miss L. Valder.
