Bridgman, president of the Dunedin Y.W.C.A., is visiting Auckland with her husband and is staying with Dr. W. G. Bridgman, of Fapakura. # # Overseas visitors at Chateau Tongariro include Miss M. FAREWELL PARTY
BRIGHT EVENING AT BIRKENHEAD DANCING AND COMPETITIONS A most enjoyable time was spent on Saturday evening, when Mr. and Mrs. A. Casey gave a farewell party at their residence, Chelsea, Birkenhead, in honour of Miss T. Bentley, who leaves on Tuesday by the Niagara for a trip to Lauvuku, Suva, over 30 guests being present to wish her “Bon voyage.” The drawing room was gaily decorated with Chinese lanterns and coloured streamers, roses and carnations lending their charm in the dining room, where a dainty supper was served. The evening was spent in games, competitions and dancing, musical items given by Miss Bentley and Messrs. Frost, McWilliams, Rush and Summer being greatly appreciated. Miss Bentley wore a dainty frock of lilac tinsel and crepe de chine. The hostess, Mrs. A. Casey, received her guests wearing a model gown of black ninofT and lace over black satin. Those also present included: Mrs. Davies, who wore a frock of floral satift with uneven hem; Mrs. Bland, sen., black satin and lace; Mrs. H. Graham, floral ninon with red posy; Mrs. Johnson, cigar brown crepe de chine and shawl to tone; Mrs. Thomas, black satin with posy; Mrs. D. Standon, betty blue georgette with handkerchief pointed skirt; Mrs. G. Sowden, sunset taffeta relieved with gold lace; Miss V. Casey, frock of vieux rose taffeta; Miss Fergusson, honey lame, relieved with gold lace and shawl to tone; Miss Hamilton, nile green satin beaute and gold lace; Miss Darlington, shell pink georgette relieved with silver lace. Miss Dewar was in dove grey ninon and guipure lace; Miss Stanley, rainbow tinsel and crepe de chine, with posy to tone; Miss Sly, mist blue ninon and french grey shawl; Miss P. Sou ter, pink georgette and silver tinsel; Miss R. Souter, lavender tinsel and black ninon; Miss Wiggins, crimson and black ninon; Miss Young, daffodil and green georgette, with shawl to tone.
NGATEA SCHOLAR’S SUCCESS
Miss Alice May Foster, daughter of Mr. C. S. Foster, manager of the New Zealand Dairy Company’s Ngatea butter factory, and a pupil of the Ngatea District High School, has been successful in winning a Dominion-wide essay competition organised by the Wellington Navy League. Miss Foster entered for the girls’ junior section, for which the subject was “Captain Cook and His Voyages.” This is the second time that a member of the Foster family and a pupil of the Ngatea School has won this competition, for last year the boys’ senior section was won by Master Percy Foster.
