EXPENDITURE OF GRANTS
MANUKAU COUNTY WORKS AMENDING TRAFFIC REGULATIONS Work in connection with preparing proposals for the expenditure of Public Works and Main Highways grants had been expedited, stated the engineer, Mr. J. R. Page, in a report submitted at a meeting of the Manukau County Council today. Various surveys and plans had been completed and forwarded for approval and others were in hand. The carrying out of work on some of the authorised items had been commenced. There was still a considerable amount of work involved in completing the list, but this was being pushed on. Twenty-two applications for the erection of dwellings and other buildings, to the total value of £3,669, had been received and distributed among the ridings as follow: Mangere, £1,672; Pakuranga, £455; Paphkura, £297; Papatoetoe, £955; Turanga, £270; Wairoa, £2O. The Main Highway® Board advised the payment of £1,644 4s 9d to the council’s account, credited as follows: Great South Road Main Highways grant, £796 4s 9d; Papakura stream bridge Main Highways grant, £745; Whitford-Brooklyn grant, £74 Os sd; Papakura Riding, £2B 19s 7d. The Commissioner of Transport wrote with reference to the Motor Vehicle Reguations, 1928, and asking for any suggested amendments, curtailments or additions which experience had shown desirable. A further letter was received from the Minister of Transport referring to the administration of various Acts dealing with motor traffic, taxation and uniform system of speed limits throughout the Dominion. The question of suggestions was referred to a special committee.
