FIRE DESTROYS HOUSE

OUTBREAK AT MT. EDEN A fire which broke out at 60 Pino Street, Mount Eden at about two o’clock this morning completely gutted the interior of a five-romed house owned and occupied by Mr. O. Walker. The outbreak was first detected by' a neighbour who gave the alarm. Mr. Walker, the only occupant in the house, at the time was asleep. He -awoke to find the house in flames. Upon the arrival of the Mount Eden Brigade the flames were in full possession and little could be done to stay their progress. Nothing was saved from the blaze. The house was covered by an insurance policy for £575 in the Alliance Assurance Company, and the furniture for £IOO. the Auckland Baptist Auxiliary, and by Mr. A. J. Lucas, secretary of the Grange Road Church, who made a presentation to Mr. Wilson on behalf of the church. The minister suitably' replied. Miss Twentyman and Miss Lucas played the organ and piano respectively, and Miss McTavish sang a solo. The presentation of an enlarged photograph of the church officers was made to the Rev. A. S. Wilson by Mr. F. E. Kretschmar.
