HIGH COMMISSIONER’S CABLE Press Association WELLINGTON, Monday. The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram dated December 14, from the High Commissioner in London: Tallow. —Market quiet but fairly steady. Little business being done in forward shipment. At auction this week thef-e was a fair demand at prices Cd lower on the average. Present quotations a cwt. are:—Mutton: Fine, 395; fair to good, 36s 6d to 38s; dark to dull, 34s 6d to 355. Beef: Sweet and/or mixed, 37s 6d to 40s; fair to good, 35s to 37s 6d; dark to dull, 33s 6d to 34s 6d. Mixed: Fair to good, 35s to 375; dark to dull, 33s 6d to 34s 3d. Gut, etc., 32s 6d 1;o 345. Wool.—Bradford market: Tendency easier, reports from primary markets indicating a further decline in crossbred. Present quotations for tops are:—64’s warp, 2s Bld to 2s 9d; average, 2s 71d to 2s Sd; 56’s, 2s Id; 50’s prepared, Is Old to Is lOd; 40’s, prepared, Is 7d. Hemp.—Manila: Market steadier on account of smaller weekly output figures, but very quiet. Closing value of January-March shipment, “J” grade, £36. Output from January 1 to November 30, 1,456,000 bales, as against 1,279,000 bales in the same period last year. Stocks in Manila on November 30 were 197,000 bales, as against 135,000, and in Great Britain 10,575, as against 15,130. New Zealand.—Market unchanged and no pressure either way. Nominal comparative closing values for De-cember-February shipments as at last rates quoted. Sisal. —Market has reacted and good business has been done in October, November and December. Fair average quality quoted at £35 to £35 15s. Good marks No. 1, after being offered at £36, were eventually done at £36 10s.
