BYRD LAUDS BRITISH
RESPECT FOR ANTARCTIC HEROES REPLY TO GOVERNOR-GENERAL WELLINGTON, Sunday. The Governor-General. Sir Charles Fergusson, has received the following message from Commander Byrd in reply to his Excellency’s telegram of congratulation: ‘‘All the inhabitants of Little America send you their heartiest thanks for your message. One result of our flight has been to increase more than ever my admiration and respect for Scott, Shaekleton, Mawson and other British heroes, who have done so much more than anyone else for exploration and science in Antarctica. Our job with airplanes has been very easy indeed compared with their job without them. We often think of the courtesy and hospitality you extended to us.”
