WINS FOR UNIVERSITY AND HOCKEY A L. ADAMS GETS HALF CENTURY Two senior and two junior matches were played in the Auckland Girls’ Cricket Association’s competitions on Saturday. For Grange Elmes took six wickets for 54 runs, and for Carisbrook Dunning captured four for 23. Dunedin, 140 (Strang 33), gained a two-point win over Old Boys, 98 and two wickets for 86 (Gale 45). For Old Boys Leader took two wickets for 12, Moloney three for 28 and A. W. Alloo three for 40. NORTHERN WAIROA BEATEN From Our Own Correspondent DARGAVILLE, Today. In a friendly representative cricket match on Saturday, Whangarei won on the lirst innings from Northern Wairoa at Dargaville. In the first innings Northern Wairoa made 77, and Whangarei 117 for live wickets. The second innings of Northern Wairoa was in? the nature of practice, the side losing nine wickets for 33 runs when time was called. NAVAL CRICKET A team representing the Royal Naval Reserve met a team from H.M.S. Philomel on Saturday. Following are the scores:— Philomel. —First innings, 97 (Battery 15, Wheeler 16, Darby 13). HAURAKI PLAINS GAMES From Our Own Correspondent NGATEA, Toda3% Bowlers had another day out in the first innings of the third series of Hauraki Plains Cricket Association twoday inatch.es on Saturday, and very low scores were recorded. Kaiheke made 90 against Ngatea’s 52, the top scores being A. J. McDonald (31) and r -f- Foote (15 not out) of Kaikehe, and A. Boyne (21) and R. E. Wentworth (12) of Ngatea, while the best bowling' was three for seven by C. Randrupp, and 5 for 12 by J. A. Hart, of Kaihere, and 4 for 11 for Ngatea by W. O'Neill. Waitakaruru made 39 only against Pipiroa and A. Burns (3 for 1), C. Stretton (3 for 2, F. Donaghy (2 for 6) and A. Kenney (1 for 2) were the Waitakaruru bowlers. H. Wallis, with a single six, was top score for Pipiroa, the side being dismissed in 15 overs for a mere dozen. Pipiroa’s best bowlers were A. McAulay, 2-1 and J. Knox 3-12. Kopuarahi bowlers made short work of Turua, E. Gill taking 6 for 7 and C. Laurence 4 for 4. Turua’s total was 16 and Kopuarahi’s 67. of which A. McMillan made 14, and H. Candy 10 not out. A Houton had the best bowling figure with one for none, R. Hill was 4 for 28. and K. S. Graham, 4 for 31.
