GREEN LANE HOLDS OUT

DRAW WITH HARBOUR BOARD The championship leader. Green Lane, battled hard for runs against Harbour Board, but >vas only able to force a draw by playing out time, and was then still 57 runs behind. Last season’s champions had lost two wickets for less than 50 runs when the innings was continued on Saturday. An early surprise was the quick dismissal of Dunning, who partnered Breese, then 25. The splendid length bowling of Seccombe and Kerr kept the batsmen quiet, Williams, the ingoing rnan, being particularly cautious. The scoring rate slackened so much that the game became dreary, even Breese not being comfortable. Somehow he could not “get under” Seccombe’s deliveries and his off-drives lacked sting. Smart fielding for Williams’s wicket added to the pair’s troubles. After he went at 25, Breese livened up, scoring rapidly on both sides of the wicket, reaching his 100 in just under two hours. V. Williams held his end up well for his partner to score. Harbour Board declared at 4.25 p.m. with 179 for .seven wickets.

With two hours left. Green Lane went after the runs. Paxton was the most enterprising and scored fairly freely on both side-; of U; wicket witli well-judged drives. H«.- knocked up 26 in good si vie before be went .vs a result of fre quen bowling

changes. Clarke struck form ininiea ately. and with a nice range of strokf* punished the bowling heavily, but h partners could not stay with hirr* Forceful batting by him brought th, century up with half an hour to so but at stumps the seventh wicket fallen for 122.
