Y.W.C.A. ACTIVITIES
The regular monthly meeting of the Board of Directors of the Y.W.C.A. was held on Friday, Mrs. J. A. Bradstreet presiding. There was a large attendance of members and plans for the coming year were discussed. Two interesting letters from Miss Doris Gavin, India, were read, also the newsletter of the Interdenominational I Youth Council. Miss Begg reported ! that the week of prayer had oeen full | of inspiration. Miss Ethel Law, j through her recent experience in I Europe, had given a wide vision of world fellowship. The garden party at Airs. Leonard’s, Papatoetoe, had been most successful, the gymnasium and sports girls giving a display of country dancing and games. The clubs and classes are busy having breaking-up parties and every club in the association is providing a poor family with Christmas cheer. The senior girls have presented their club rooms with cushions and a squab and are taking a practical interest in their own rooms. The girls.’ department reports a very successful community gathering, when Miss Elva Fraser passed her badge of office to Atiss Marjorie Burton, the new Chief Citizen. There will be 24 delegates to the Dominion Girl Citizen Conference to be held at Sumner, Christchurch, at New Year. Airs. Bradstreet presented the intersection cup to the Areta section, and the junior picture to the Acme section. beautiful Christmas pageant concluded a very happy evening. Girl Citizens also are providing Christmas hampers for poor folk. The Mothers’ Club gave a most successful children’s party last Saturday and rhe Women’s Progressive Club had held a very enjoyable banquet. It was announced that Aliss Nessie ALoncrieff would sail from Auckland on January 17 for China; a farewell gathering would be held at that date. The Y.AV.C.A. will take part in the farewell to Lady Alice Fergusson on January 3. During the morning tea interval, a. very pleasant function, took place, when Airs. Bradstreet, on behalf of the board, presented Airs. G. H. Wilson with a beautiful travelling cushion. Airs. AVilson was given a year’s leave of absence and will leave for England in February. Airs. AVilson has served the association as president, for a long term as chairman of committee, and her services have been greatly appreciated. Miss Jean Begg was also congratulated on the honour of boir>r;- anpointed international project director of the Social Service Division oi uie Pan-Pacific Women’s Conference.
