CHURCH FUNDS BENEFIT TAKAPUNA GATHERING The grounds of the Baptist Church, Milford, presented an animated sight on Saturday afternoon, when a garden fair was held in aid of the church funds. Alarquees and awnings were dotted here and there, wherein eager workers tempted patrons to buy to the limit of -their purses. The Mayoress of Takapuna, Airs. Julius Williamson, declared the fair open, and no sooner was this done than the tinkle of silver sleigh bells heralded the advent of Santa Claus. This venerable gentleman immediatelyproceeded to book the requirements of the children, and no doubt many a parent will regretfully recall the fact when . Christmas Eve in due course rolls round. "Good business” was the report from the various stallholders, and the financial objective of the promoters was more than achieved. The various stalls and those in control of them were: Cakes: Airs. J. H. Ashby and Mrs. Davey. Flo Avers: Airs. J. Wallace and Airs. Baldock. Sewing and aprons: Mrs. J. Hiddlestone, Airs. W. Penning and Airs. Schwa mm. Produce and fruit: Deacons of the church under the control of Mr. W. Penning. Jumble: Airs. Aloran and Bible Class boys. Sweets and ice-cream: Aliss Lily Cryer, Aliss Lucy Cryer, Aliss Elsie Roper and Aliss Violet Roper. Afternon tearooms: Aliss E. Cryer, Airs. Johnston and Junior Bible Class Girls. Tennis courts: Air. Arthur Coles.
