CIVIC
HUGE OPENING PROGRAMME It is obvious from advance announcements that the new Civic Theatre will open on Friday evening with a programme fully in keeping with the occasion. It was only after considerable deliberation that “Three Live Ghosts” was chosen as the picture to open the new theatre. Numerous fine films were offering, but the management have chosen “Three Live Chosts” chiefly because it was one of the brightest comedy “talkies” yet produced. With the opening night distant only a few days there is great activity at the theatre at present. The auditorium is receiving its finishing touches, the huge orchestral barge, which will rise from the depths below Queen Street when the orchestra is about to play, is rapidly taking shape. In the rooms set aside for the purpose, ballet girls are in active rehearsal, and the musicians selected by Mr. Ted Henkel are being finally schooled in all the niceties of team work. To hear them play one can hardly believe that so much harmony could have been produced in so short a time.
The installation of the huge organ is now nearly completed, and the playing of Fred Scholl should prove a furore on Friday.
The box plan is now filling rapidly for the whole of the first week of the season.
