STALE APPLE-PIES
WOMAN’S LUNCH SPOILED VENDOR FINED On a recent Monday morning, Mrs. Alice Munro bought two apple pies in Frederick Clayton’s shop at the Royal Oak, but on sitting down to lunch found them distinctly stale. Clayton, however, on being: shown the pies, maintained they were fresh, and the police were called in. Sergeant O’Neill told Mr. F. FI. T.evien. S.M., in the Onehungit .Police i ourt this morning, that the pies were •unsound, mouldy and decayed/’ Defendant said that the pies had evidently been carried over from the week-end and had got mixed up bv mistake with Monday’s fresh batch. He pointed out that stale apple pies were not nearly so dangerous as ones containing 1 meat. He asked, as he had only recently taken over the business. that his name be suppressed, hut this was refused. He was fined 20s and costs.
