Carrying 384 passenger* and qua n tities of English and Australian for Auckland, the R.M.S. Niagara arived in the Waitemata at daybreak today en route for Vancouver. K The run from Sydney was a delight ful one and the weather met with w*' said to be the calmest enjoyed on tha* section of the route for the past in years. Brigadier-General S. E. Massy LAovd C.8.E., and Mrs. Lloyd arc returniritr to England after a holiday i n Au* tralia. They will stay in New Zealand for some weeks and will joint the Aorangi on her return trip to Vancouver. “We stayed with firends a* Camden Park Station.” said General Lloyd thi« morning, “and saw something of hf t behind the scenes in Australia.” * * * Dr. Norman Paul, a noted Sydnev physician, and his wife will do'som f fishing at Rotorua. After that they will make a of the Dominion. Mr. Leonard Saunders, managmr director of the Austral Press. Ltd Sydney and Melbourne. Is another Aus’ tralfan who has come over to see the sights of the Dominion. He wiQ spend most of his time at Rotorua. * * * Mr. J. Cleary, of the Corpus Christi College. Sydney, and a nephew of th«* late Bishop Cleary, was one of the pasl sengers. He sailed last week in an endeavour to reach his uncle’s bedside before the latter’s death. * * * Mr. IC. Aikman. son of the wellknown Victorian run-holder, and his wife, are on their honeymoon tour. Mr. Barrington Miller, now of London and formerly of Gisborne, is returning to England after visiting New Zealand and Australia. He is interested in the development of British talking films and at one time was actively engaged as a producer. Mr. W. Sparke. a Newcastle solicitor, and Mr. G. *>. B. Rich, son of Mr! Justice Rich, of the Australian Supreme Court, are both through passengers oa trips abroad. * * * Mr. L. S. Benjamin, managing director of W. D. and H. O. Will*, Melbourne, is on his way to spend a. holiday in Honolulu. Miss Mary Campbell, of the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, i* a. great personal friend of Dame Nellie Melba. She is on her way to Canada and England. Mr. H. J. Flankey, a director of the Colgate-Palmolive Soap Company, is returning to the United States, after spending six years in Sydney, where ho organised the Australian business for the Company. * * * Major A. Gallaher, D. 5.0.. M.C., 4th Dragoon Guards, and his wife, vr.U spend a holiday in New Zealand. Mrs. Gallaher is a keen angler and hopes to get some good sport at Rotorua and Taupo. » * * “The late Bishop Cleary was widely respected in Australia, particularly as an able journalist,” Father Bede Kearney, of Ryde, Sydney, told an interviewer. “It was conceded generally that ‘The Month,’ under Bishop Cleary, was the best Roman Catholic paper in New Zealand or Australia.’ he added. Father Kearney is spending a holiday of three months in New Zealand. * * * Mrs, A. M. Lewis, of Remuera, returned from a holiday visit to Australia. She was accompanied by her daughter, Mrs. C. A. Carr, of Brisbane.
