FANCY DRESS FETE

CURRAN STREET SCHOOL About 1,500 children, parents ajid friends attended the fancy dress garden fete at the Curran Street School, Ponsonby, yesterday. Mr. M. J. Savage, M.P., performed the opening ceremony. The fete was in aid of funds for the maintenance of a dental clinic, the teaching of swimming and the interior decoration of the school. There was a large and varied display of stalls, which did very satisfactory business. There was a grand parade, followed by procession of infants and older children round the grounds. Many of the costumes were beautifully arranged and others were extremely novel. A parade of decorated prams, scooters and bicycles was also held. The girls gave exhibitions of folk da.ncing and solo and ballet dances, the boys giving a fine exhibition of physical drill. Pupils also gave novelty items. At the conclusion of the programme proficiency certificates were presented.
