BIGGS QUARREL
EVIDENCE AT INQUEST ON WOMAN OPEN VERDICT RETURNED MELBOURNE, Friday. The coroner's inquiry concerning the death of Mrs. Edith Biggs, whose body was found under the pier at St. Kilda on November IS, was resumed today. Mrs. Ann Hamilton in evidence said she heard quarrelling in the music room at the People’s Palace, Melbourne, at 7 p.m. on November IS. The quarrel was between Biggs and his wife about a property. Miss Harris stated that she walked along St. Kilda pier with Mrs. Biggs on the night her body was found. Mrs. Biggs said she was worried about money and property matters, and described her husband as a restless man. She then remarked how cruel, but how merciful, the waters of the bay were. Miss Harris said she left her on the pier at about 10.30 p.m. Mrs. Biggs remarked that sbe wanted to stay and think things out. Detective Davey said he asked Biggs why he did not report his wife's disappearance before he left for Auckland. Biggs quoted from the First Epistle of St. Paul to the Corinthians, chapter seven, regarding marriage. The coroner, after hearing other evidence, recorded an open verdict.
