ACCLIMATISATION MERGER COROMANDEL AND AUCKLAND The amalgamation of the Aucklaiu and Coromandel Acclimatisatioi Societies was discussed at a meeting of the Auckland Society last evening It was stated that a tentative proposal regarding amalgamation hac been made to the Coromandel Society some time ago. The society, in it; reply to the Auckland secretary. Mr C. W. Gordon, expressed its willingness to ratify such a proposal, bn: with reservations. These were to tin effect that the Auckland society convenes at least one council meeting u year in Coromandel, and that the lattei society retains its own executive as at present, and appoints two delegates to represent it at the council meetings of the Auckland body. Tho chairman, Mr. F. M. McKenzie, pointed out that the amalgamating ot the two societies was complete except for the official drawing up of documents and the definition of boundaries, “This society.” he remarked, “has cause to congratulate itself, as the Coromandel district is excellent shooting ground and particularly adaptable for breeding birds.” A resolution was passed confirming the amalgamation. It was decided, at the general request of sportsmen, to extend the 1930 shooting season to two months, from May 1 to June 30. The question of closing the whole of the Rodney County for one year, and giving it a liberal supply of pheasant, was considered by the society. It was thought that the closing of the whole, rather than sections, would be expedient as it would dispense with the constant vigilance of a ranger, and give ample opportunity for the increase of bird flocks. Tho financial statement showed a credit balance of £1,032 13s Sd.
