PATRIOTIC ASSOCIATION DISTRESS SUMS ONLY £l5O REMAINS Within a few weeks the B fund of the Auckland Provincial Patriotic and War Relief Association, applied for relieving cases of distress, will he exhausted. In announcing the depletion of the fund to the association yesterday afternoon, the chairman, Sir James Gunson, said the fund was begun :.n 1915. Today, £152 6s 2d remained and the amount would be used in a few weeks in the course of ordinary administration. ‘ The only funds in this association then will be those representing the A, or Provincial 'Wounded Fund,” said Sir James. Before the meeting, the B fund stood at £250 6s 2d, but the meeting agreed to a contribution, in accordance with the usual practice, of £IOO to the War Memorial Library League of the Mayoress, Mrs. A. D. Campbell. The association will state that its fund will not be. able to provide for further grants. The balance in the fund on March 31 of this year was £967 16s 9d. From the National War Funds Council, £7OO was received and the interest was £lB 12s. On sundry relief, £1,105 14s lid was expended, £228 7s Sd went to the Veterans' Home, and the Auckland City Mission received £IOO. The payments were up to November 30. BALANCE DECREASED The total funds of the association at Since then, £3OB 18s 4d has been received as interest on investments, £1,577 8s 2d as refunds from Southern patriotic societies, and, with donations, the amount became £122,429 2s 2d. Expenditure left a balance of £117,223 6s 4d at November 30. In the past quarter, the claims board of the association had dealt with a steady stream of applications. Of 1,096 applicants, 828 were granted aid. The amount paid out was £3,297. The work of dealing with applications from permanently disabled men had varied considerably in volume since a board for the purpose was established ten years ago. Apparently most of the men concerned in the work have now had their applications dealt with and future work is expected to be merely nominal. Since the scheme began, 53S permanently disabled men have been assisted and £108,440 8s has been disbursed.
