THAMES HARBOUR SCHEME

NO GOVERNMENT HELP From Our Oicn Correspondent THAMES, Thursday. The Government has refused the Thames Harbour Board’s application for assistance to enable it to complete the harbour scheme. The following telegram from the Hon. J. G. Cobbe, Minister of Marine, was received by the board: “Your telegram of 9th to hand. Information received is that even if dredging were completed, it is doubtful whether the harbour would not silt up again. In face of information at present available, the Government would not be justified in assisting to carry out work proposed.” The reply has not damped the board’s spirit, and a fresh application is being made, and further particulars forwarded.
