ONEHUNGA ORPHANS
PRESENTATION TO PRESIDENT As a means.of expressing their appreciation of the valuable services to the Onehunga Orphans’ Club by its president, Mr. Robert Buchanan, the Ext vitive Committee last evening present*. him with a large framed shield of the photographs of the vicepresidents and officers of the club. The centre of the picture is occupied by an enlarged photograph of Mr. Buchanan lsblding the gavel and wearin- the col'.ir of his office, while the executive officers are grouped artistically around him. The shield, which is appropriately inscribed, is the work ..I Mr. T. 11. Ashe, and reflects considerable credit on his skill.
In presenting the ( shield, Bro. 13. V. Sutherland, past-president of the club, referred i * the many acts of kindness of both .Mr. and Mrs. Buchanan, who had given valuable assistance to any charitable object in Onehunga. “The committee felt that it could not present you with a wallet of notes,” said Mr. Sutherland, “as you and your good wife have shown that they much prefer to give notes rather than receive them.”
Bro. Buchanan, responding to the toast of his health, said that no more appropriate or more highly-appreciated gift could bo given him, and he i hanked the Executive Committee for its assistance during his term of office. During the evening’s functions, which was held in the Orphans’ Hall, Onehunga, songs and recitations were given by Bros. It. W. Gibbons, T. H. Ash**, It. Wilson, J. Kennedy-Ross, E. Marks and J. E. Green.
