GARDEN FETE
CHURCH FUNDS BENEFIT DARGAVILLE FUNCTION Ideal weather conditions favoured the garden fete held at “Killiney,” the home of Mr. and Mrs. F. S. Goulding, at Dargaville, yesterday, under the auspices of the Holy Trinity Church. Stalls and side-shows were well arranged at all vantage points of the beautiful grounds. The attendance during both afternoon and evening was very large. The North Auckland Regimental Band rendered a programme of music, including several dance numbers, to the tune of which many'couples danced on the lawn. Other dance numbers were provided by panatrope music by Mr. H. Gaukrodger. More than £ 150 was taken as the result of the function. *LTiose in charge of stalls were: Guild stall, Mrs. Tregidga; half-crown and shilling stall, Miss Stephenson; cake stall, Mrs. L. R. Capp; jumble, Mrs. J. Dempsey; refreshment, Mrs. M. C. Astley; sweets, Miss K. Hilliam; country, Mesdames H. Massey and B. Coleman; tea room, Mrs. Alderson; side-shows, Mr. A. Whatford and assistants; competitions, Mesdames S. G. Barker, G. N. Hayes and G. S. Mitchell; Christmas Tree, Mesdames Armitage and C. S. Rush. The Misses Mavis Hilliam and Joan Bagnall acted as fairies and Mr. A. W. Christie as Santa Claus; Mrs. B. S. Angus and Mr. L. Izod were joint secretaries, while Mr. Angus was treasurer. Baby show awards * were:—Under six months, Mrs. W. Harrison’s child; under 12 months, Mrs. H. Smith’s child; under 18 months, Mrs. P. Hopkinson’s child. In the decorated vehicles’ competitions, prizes were awarded to Roma McLachlan, 1; Joyce Montgomery, 2; and Betty Mitchell, special.
