“The Hill” is Scene of Happy Dance
MANY GUESTS PRESENT A most enjoyable dance was given by Mr. and Mrs. David Nathan at The Hill, Manurewa, last evening, the beautiful grounds being a fairyland of twinkling, coloured lights, which also outlined the porches and loggia. r PIIE night was so perfect that op- -*• portunity was taken to stroll about tlio garden, redolent with the perfume of flowers which breathed oil the still Inside the house flowers were to be seen everywhere, the entrance hall having masses of hydrangeas in blue and white among the green of ferns and palms, with tall vases of pink and crimson rambler roses along the side walls. The drawing-room, where bridge was played, had large bowls of hydrangeas and crimson and white roses, while the buffet was arranged in a colour scheme of gold and white, with tall, slender vases of Iceland poppies. ANTIQUE CANDELABRA Supper was served in a room just off the lounge, and nothing could have been more lovely than the arrangement of the table. Waxen, scented Madonna lilies amid the delicate flesh pink of Lady Gay roses and filmy miniature pink begonia, with antique silver candelabra to cast their soft glow, and give the old-world effect to the scene. To receive her guests Mrs. Nathan wore a frock of dull apricot net over satin, with a fitting corsage and boufant skirt in slanting tiers shading from apricot to cocoa-brown. She carried an ostrich feather fan. Miss Jocelyn Nathan was wearing a charming frock of primrose tulle with a bouffant skirt, and large side bow of tulle. The long, fitting bodice was outlined at the waist with a long spray of ivory tinted flowers. Among the guests were:—. The Countess of Orford, who wore a frock of old ivory tinted taffeta embossed in a floral design in autumn beech tones. The skirt, which was pouched over the hips, fell in uneven folds, with a deep flouncing of old ivory lace, a narrow band of rhinestones outlining the round neck of the corsage. Lady Car rick Robertson was wearing a taffeta frock of delft blue, with long drapings. Mrs. Prentice had chosen a frock of sprigged taffeta in a deep shade of wedgwood blue. Mrs. E. Russell was in a chic model frock of delphinium blue net over satin of the same shade, with a design of silver sequins. Dr. Margaret Knight wore a frock of black georgette with a skirt formed entirely of frills of uneven length, and curved yoke of silver beading. A charming frock of red and pale biscuit floral ninon was worn by Mrs. Baker Cresswell. Mrs. Oakes favoured a frock of black georgette with a large diamente buckle. Mrs. Murray Benjamin’s frock was of cameo pink georgette, with an embroidery of crystal beads. Airs. Mervyn Reed was in a frock of ivory satin with a deep hem of ivory tulle and hand-made satin flowers. A red shoulder flower was worn. Mrs. Jersel had on a lovely frock of shell pink satin, ankle length. Black satin beaute, with a skirt of long points, was Mrs. Jeffreys’s choice. Mrs. Howard Richmond wore a becoming frock of floral georgette. GOLD LAME FROCK Mrs. Trevor Davis had on a frock of gold lame and metal lace, with a narrow banding of goblin blue. Airs. Hugh Fenton’s frock was of lace in tones of silver and amethyst. Airs. S. Thorne George was wearing an ankle length frock of floral ninon in shades of pink and gold. A becoming frock of black georgette with gold embroideries was chosen by Airs. Finlayson. Airs. H. Wilson had on a silver embossed lame and silver lace frock. Aliss Audrey Horton wore a charming period frock of phlox pink taffeta. Aliss Cherry Anderson’s frock was of pale amethyst georgette, ankle length, with a large hip bow in rhine violet shade. An ankle length frock of mist blue taffeta with a deep hem of tulle, was chosen by Miss Dinah Isaacs. Aliss Gwen Kingston was in a frock of ravenswing blue, relieved with deep ecru' lace. „ „ . Aliss Kitty Horsley’s frock was of bois de rose ninon, ankle length. Aliss Freda Rathbone wore a delightful frock of shell pink and black georgette, with an embroidery of rhinestones. Aliss Joan Robertson was wearing floral ninon in leaf green, with a yoke and hem of lace in the same shade. Miss Althea Parker had on a pretty frock of lemon satin and tulle, with a plain corsage, and full flounced skirt. Aliss Jean Lawford was in sedge green, the georgette skirt beautifully embroidered with silver beads. Miss Nancye Colbeck wore a lovely frock of primrose taffeta with a skirt of deep tiers. Gold lace with a deep hem of tulle in the same shade was chosen by Aliss Lesley Waller. Aliss Jocelyn Bloomfield’s frock was of sprigged taffeta with a background of nymph green. Miss Norma AlcCallum wore a frock of geranium red lace with a long uneven hemline. An ankle length frock of floral georgette was chosen by Alias Bullock Webster. Aliss Denise Didsbury was wearing blush pink georgette with long side drapings. Miss Dklsbury’s frock was of taffeta in eau de nil, with a deep hem of silver lace. Periwinkle georgette, with narrow bands of moire ribbon, was worn by Aliss Cicely Russell. Miss Dolly Vaile’s charming frock was of sprvng green spotted net over satin. Alias ,Rosemary Waller wore a floral ninon frock in tones of green.
