AMATEUR STATUS OF CADDIES

For some time the New Zealand Golf Council has been anxious about the amateur status of its caddies (writes our Wellington correspondent), and some months ago a letter was forwarded to the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrew's, asking that the age limit at which a youth may carry clubs for hire should be raised from 16 to 18 years. This week a cablegram was received from Home, stating that the proposal had been acceded to, and lads will now be able to act as caddies for payment up to 18 years of age without infringing their amateur status. The council has decided that the change shall come into force immediately.
