INVASION OF INDUSTRY
PROTEST AGAINST MARRIED WOMEN WORKERS ADULTERATED-FOOD SALES Press Association DUNEDIN, Today. The Otago Labour Council has passed a resolution that the National Council of the New Zealand Alliance of Labour be requested to take such steps as it deems necessary to have the regulations under the Sale of Food and Drugs Act amended to prevent tAe sale of adulterated foods and artificial substitutes. Under the existing regulations not only is the health of the people menaced, but the artificially and chemically thickened, sweetened, flavoured, coloured and preservatised foods sold under spurious names suggestive of food substances are deceptive. It was resolved that the alliance be requested to consider the hardship endured by single girls and their parents by the invasion of industry by married, childless women with husbands in employment, with a view to requesting the Government to discipline its married male servants to the extent that they be required to prevent their wives from engaging in industry and competing with girls and women who have to support themselves. Further, that the wages of such public servants be sufficient to enable them to carry out their obligation to support their wives.
