TOMATOES IMPROVE COLOURED PLUMS SOUGHT An improvement has taken place in the demand in the City Marts for hothouse tomatoes. While green plums are slow of sale, there is a ready inquiry for coloured lines. New Zealand Sturmers are decreasing, and good condition varieties are selling well. Canadian apples command a good market. Strawberries are unsettled in value. There was an increase today owing to the fewer pickings in yesterday’s rain. Gooseberries are cheaper. The supplies are heavy. Oranges are selling steadily, and good lemons bring satisfactory prices. Bananas will be brought from the Islands on Wednesday next by the Waipahi. In the vegetable market, cabbages, new potatoes and green peas are plentifully supplied. Quotations: FRUIT Apples.—New Zealand: Sturmers, Ss to 13s.
