INCREASE IN RACEGOERS
RESULT OF TOTALISATOR IN ENGLAND
TURNOVER OF £36,000,000
Reed. 9.5 a.m. LONDON, Thursday. Viscount D’Ahernon, addressing a meeting at Newmarket, said the totalisator was responsible for a remarkable increase in racegoers, amounting in some instances to 80 per cent.
Judging by the investments thus far, it was anticipated that the first year’s operation will result in a turnover of £36,000,000. The average yearly amount spent on bettipg in England is £267,000,000. The experience already gained confirmed the view that the totalisator would also lead to better racecourses, better stands, cheaper admission, larger prizes and diminished entrance fees.
