AMERICAN BASEBALL USES 50,000 BALLS IN SEASON
'VJ’O fewer than 50,400 balls were used in national league baseball matches in America last year. In 1910, 3 0,200 balls were sufficient fox' a season. A practice that did not exist 20 years ago, however, is that permitting the batter or catcher to ask for a new ball if the one in play becomes smeared or rough in spots.
