LIMITED LATE
TRUCK DERAILED SOUTH OF OHAKUNE
NEARLY FIVE HOURS’ DELAY
The derailment of a wagon on a goods train travelling from Ohakuno to Taihape about 12.30 a.m. delayed the Limited express nearly five hours A wagon loaded with coal attached to the goods train jumped the line between Waiouru and Hihitahi, about 10 miles north of Ngaurukehu, where the Limited was scheduled to cross. The result was that the express was held up at ihe latter station until th« line was cleared. The derailed wagon of the goods train was jacked clear of the Hue to enable the express to pass, the balance of the goods train being taken on to the crossing station. A longer delay than usual was or casioned by the fact that gangs had to be roused from their sleep and transferred to scene of the accident. Slight damage was done to the line, and the sleepers, which had to be thoroughly tested before the Limited could proceed. She was four and a-half hours late in leaving Ohakune Mr. H. H. Sterling, General Manager of the Railway Department, was a passenger for Auckland by the express, en route for Waiuku, where he is to address a meeting this evening.
