MOTUIHI ISLAND
CHARGE FOR LANDING
SMALLER FEE WANTED An effort to have the landing changes at Motuihi Island reduced was made at last evening’s meeting of the City Council by Cr. E. J. Phelan. The councillor asked that tlie present fee of threepence a head for adults, and one penny for children, be made a penny for adults, and that children under 12 should be allowed to land without charge. He said that excursionists were finding the cost of visiting Motuihi prohibitive, owing to the landing fee and the charge for water. He knew a considerable expense would be necessary at Motuihi, particularly in putting the wharf in order, but he did not consider that the council would be justified in incurring any great expense there until the island was handed over to the council, or a more satisfactory arrangement made as to its control. Cr. J. B. Paterson said the council was faced with an expense of £1,200 in connection with the wharf, and the money had to be found somehow. On the motion of Or. G. G.rey Campbell, the question was referred to the Parks Committee for a report. ,
