“NIGHTS OF JOY”

BREEZY ST. JAMES SHOW

“Nights of Joy,” Jim Gerald’s new show at St. James Theatre, is every bit as funny as the best he has yet put on. The clever comedian has carried his season along with the inspiration almost of genius, and revue-going Auckland has not wearied of flocking to see the droll, witty and amusing fellow, and to applaud his versatile and vivacious company. You see the after effects of a regimental dinner most faithfully portrayed, and you laugh at the silliest youth who ever thought himself worthy of being taken seriously.

Splendid dancing and vocal numbers are included in the programme. Mercia Elliott, Lily Coburn, Linda Foy. Essie Jennings all sang pleasingly in humour and ballad. Letty Craydon was clever on the boards as leader of the Twinklers ballet. The men are efficient as creators of laughter. Howard Hall, who plays the Count at a garden fete, and Reg. Hawthorne, in popular burlesque numbers, were right before the footlights.
