BUSY AT OTAHUHU
TRAINERS PREPARING FOR EPSOM FIXTURE
LIKELY CANDIDATES Mangere trainers are keeping their charges well up to the mark for engagements ahead. There is a good number working at present on the suburban tracks, and it looks as if Otahuhu horses will be well in the picture again at Epscm. Trotting Team Tom Roe, recognised on all sides as an expert with square-gaiters, lias a good team under his care. Gold Sovereign, Peterson, Gold Star, Nebraska and the promising three-year-old by Th© Triumph—Liberty Bell are looking in fin© heart. Peterson, Gold Star and Gold Sovereign will sport silk during th© Christmas carnival and should add interest to trotting heats. On the Improve Garth Robertson is getting a rare polish on Great Ballin and Van Rich, and both promise to strip fit horses when next taken to the races. So far this season the Ballin gelding has not reproduced his best form, but should do better later on. The consistent Van Rich looks like being ready shortly for the opposition. Getting In Order Geo. Mitchell is doing all right with Tony Victor and Polly’s Picture, and the pair are coming along nicely. The
latter has not been at her best of late, but an improvement can soon he looked for. Tony Victor is assuming racing proportions and may soon be seen heading for the man in the box. The solid old trotter Sebisca is standing up to his tasks in good style, and his days of usefulness are not yet ended. Well-Conditioned Lot A busy man is Sid Groat, and included in his string of well-conditioned charges are Nelson Tasker, Wilma Dillon, Floraline, Silver Link, Black Ballin and Queen’s Bond. Nelson Tasker is none the worse for his exertions last month, and he promises to be again cheeky at Christmas time. Wilma Dillon appears quit© contented in his new surroundings and may be able to make amends when next seen in action. A Useful Pair S. August is keeping the condition on Stanmoor and Rockburn, and this consistent pair will be keen when the time comes to don the colours. Rockburn is showing good style as a trotter, and may, during the forthcoming carnival, be given a run at this gait. Stanmoor’s recent form Avould
suggest a winning badge in the near future, and his consistency certainly deserves to be rewarded. Still Going Strong Geo. Baton is pottering about with Tho Tartar and the cute old trotter appears to be in the best of spirits. He lias not been given any exacting contracts of late, but may be seen out at the end of the month again. Ursuline. the speedy, but somewhat erratic pacing mare, is bowling along as if she never intended to do anything wrong in future. Delivering the Goods T. Grimmond’s improved candidate, Master Huia, is doing everything required of him, and he has taken no hurt from his recent exertions at Alexandra Park. The half brother to Lady Dunmore has come on a whole heap this season and in all his races he has shown pleasing form. ITis trainer has put in a lot of time on the gelding and deserves the success that is now trailing him along. J. T. Paul has His hands full just now preparing a useful lot for the Auckland function. Besides his own pair Great Parrish and Waikaha, Great Peter and Akenehi are being topped off at the Mangere trainers’ private track. However it is just possible he may not have this duo right up to concert pitch in the time at his disposal. J.T.’s Derby colt is going along swimmingly with his preparation for the classic. Will Do Better Trustworthy is bearing a. bright appearance, and should be in more forward condition when next she steps out in public. Owner Brady was unlucky in not getting a run with the Worthy Bond mare on the final day of the Otahuhu fixture, owing to the acceptance going astray. However, the outing the first day would do her good and she should soon be back to her best form.
