Fine Card For Ashburton C.R.C.

RACING AND TROTTING THE PROSPECTS The Ashburton County Racing Club ' is probably the only one that remains \ loyal to a restricted programme of i seven races all the year round, and ; perhaps it is no worse off by mainj raining this. Certainly the fields for ! tomorrow's summer meeting are quite i good, with the exception of the principal handicap, a type of race that does not always fill well on Southern courses away from the metropolitan centres. There are only seven in the big event tomorrow, and the smart three-year-old would take some beating provided he is in the hands of a capable rider. The two-year-old Sleipner created a favourable impression when he made his first appearance last month at RPcarton, finishing third to Tea Party and Tray Bond on the second day of the cup meeting. This youngster is a full brother to Look Out, and a half-brother to that hardy customer, Day Guard. Some horses that may be prominent in the market tomorrow are the following: Winchmore Hack Handicap. Master Clarence and Phastar. Melrose Trot Handicap.—Lydia and M ussolini. Tinwald Handicap.—Night Lad and Sea Raid. Lagmhor Plate. Sleipner and Straightcourse. _ Moreton Hack.—The Viscount and Dutch Money. Selma Trot.— Eiffelton Lass and Lady Zora. Wakanui Handicap.—Buoyant and Courtli ke. The first race does not start until 1 p.m. A Eastwood’s riding engagements at Ashburton tomorrow include Sea Raid, Miss Nightraid, Sleipner and Nastori. W. Scobie rides Phastar. L. J. Ellis will pilot Decoy Bird and Sapient, while G. Barr rides Tane. The following are the acceptances for tomorrows racing, together with the starting times: 1/1 WINCHMORE HACK • ” 0 furlongs
