MR. E. MORTON TO ENTER CONTEST

FORMER MEMBER’S BROTHER

When on May 13 last Mr. F. S. Morton asked the Onehunga Borough Council to relieve him of his position on the Transport Board, the question of nominating his successor arose, and the council then agreed to nominate his brother, Mr. Edward Morton, Mayor of Onehunga. Now that Mr. F. S. Morton has delinitely resigned. Mr. Edward Morton siguilied this morning his intention of contesting the vacant seat. He has had a long experience, both as a councillor and deputy-Mayor, in borough affairs, and commands the confidence of a strong section of Onehunga electors. Mr. F. S. Morton was the recipient of a travelling bag from the Onehunga Borough Council yesterday afternoon in recognition of services rendered by him as a member of the Transport Board, At the request of the Mayor, Mr. Edward Morton, Cr. F. W. Mountjoy made the presentation. He expressed the council’s appreciation of the strenuous battle fought by Mr. Morton to secure better transport for the suburban areas, and hoped that he would return to Auckland fully restored in health. Each of the councillors present spoke in a similar strain.

In returning thanks, Mr. Morton gave a brief resume of his activities on the board, and all joined in wishing him a safe and speedy return.
