FIRE IN TIMBER MILL
BURNING MASS OF SAWDUST
GOOD WORK BY BRIGADE
A tire which may have assumed serious proportions but for the prompt action on the part of the Newmarket Fire Brigade, broke out in the TaupoTotara Timber Company,. Limited’s sawmill at about midnight last night. The sawdust and shavings, which are carried from various parts of the mill by cyclone conveyors, and stored in a large container above the boiler room, by some means not ascertainable became ignited. The outbreak was discovered by the night watchman at 11.45 p.m. The Newmarket Brigade was summoned immediately, and upon arrival was confronted with a burning mass of compressed sawdust. The lire was first of all isolated by tile brigade, which then broke down the door at the base of the container and brought its leads to bear on top of the mass. Apart from the loss of the fuel aud minor injury to the framework of the bin, little damage was done.
