Doctors’ Wives Entertained at Afternoon Tea
Enjoyable Function at University College
MRS. C. H. TEWSLEY IS HOSTESS The women’s common-room at the University College was made very attractive with a profusion of summer flowers yesterday afternoon when the wives of doctors attending the annual meeting of the Auckland branch of the British Medical Association, held in the college yesterday, were entertained at tea by Mrs. C. H. Tewsley, the wife of the branch president. To receive her guests, Airs. Tewsley wore honey-coloured georgette and self-toned lace, with becoming widebrimmed hat trimmed with flowers. Among those present were: Lady Carrick Robertson, wearing a burgundy ensemble suit wifch black cire straw hat; Airs. P. A. Lindsay, in black marocain. with ermine necklet and black liat, osprey-trimmed; Airs. H. C. Tewsley, in a black ensemble with black hat and furs; Mrs. Kenneth McCormack, wearing buttercup yellow frock with pleated skirt, and small black cire hat; Mrs. Graham Lindsay, navy blue and wine red chenille embossed georgette, with small navy hat; Aliss Phyllis Lindsay, beige georgette and wide-brimmed black picture hat; Airs. J. A. W. Roberton, black ensemble and black and white hat; Airs. E. H. B. floral crepe de chine in blue tonings, and navy bangkok hat; Mrs. Kenneth Gordon, black satin coat with a sedge green hat; Airs. Kenneth McCormack, buttercup georgette with a pleated skirt, and small black cire hat; Mrs. Jones, green ensemble with a hat to tone; Airs. S. Ludbrook, floral georgette in blue and grey tonings, and hat oL T forget-me-not blue; Mrs. Mac Kay Grant, navy and beige spotted georgette with a small black hat; Airs. Tracey Inglis, black silk ensemble and a black hat relieved with white; Airs. J. S. Hudson, crepe de chine in black, with trimmings of lime georgette and black hat. Airs. W. M. AlcCormick, who had on navy blue ensemble and navy hat with henna-shaded flowers; Airs. Griffin, black satin coat and black hat; Airs. Spedding, grey self-striped tailored suit and fawn hat banded with brown; Airs. R. H. Walton, black ensemble with a hat of rose and fawn; Airs. J. Reid, georgette frock with a black coat and white furs; Airs. Fullerton, grey ensemble with a small hat in french grey; Airs. H. Wilson, crepe de chine with a printed design in green and black, and black hat: Mrs. W. G. Borrie, ring velvet in bottle green, and a small black hat; Airs. T. W. Wilkin, black fur coat over black georgette and small black hat; Aliss D. Tewsley,' black satin frock with fur coat and petuniacoloured hat: Airs. V. F. Usher, rose pink georgette and beige lace hat; Mrs. Keith Afacky, fawn coat over green and a green hat to match; Aliss AlcCormick, green frock and rose-coloured hat; Airs. G. Russell, leaf brown ensemble and brown hat to tone; All's. W. H. Thomas, canary yellow jumper suit and yellow and blue hat; Airs. W. A. Blomfield, black ensemble and green hat. • Airs. Esdaile Moore had chosen a frock of fawn georgette and a fawn hat touched with colour. Dr. Margaret Knight, tailored suit of black cloth with a small felt hat; Airs. J. Dreadon, navy blue crepe de chine, and navy bangkok hat; Airs. P. Aloir, navy crepe de chine with a printed design, and hat to match; Dr. Gladys Rowley, floral crepe de chine in brown ton- , ings, and brown picture hat; Aliss Joan Robertson, sedge green coat over a frock of deeper shade, and green felt hat.
FAREWELL SOCIAL
GATHERING IN EPSOM SCHOOL HALL
Miss Morrison was again entertained when a large number of old girls attended a farewell social in the school hall at Epsom. A LOVELY bouquet of scarlet roses and bright sweet peas was presented to Aliss Morrison on arrival. Miss M. Chaplin, president of the Old Girls’ Association, was in the chair, and on behalf of the association she presented Aliss Morrison with a silver tea service. In a happy little spech Aliss Chaplin referred to the excellent work done by Aliss Morrison in building up the school, and spoke of the affection with which she was regarded by all her past pupils. An entertaining programme was provided by Aliss T. Hewitt, and Miss T. Rountree, who played pianoforte solos; Aliss M. Pilkington and Aliss Al. Free, who gave recitations; Aliss E. Foote and Aliss Al. Cutting, songs; Aliss D. Higham, a violin solo; Miss I. Abdullah and Al. Craig, gipsy dance. A comedy produced by Aliss D. Potter, and acted by Misses Al. Park, F. Crook and M. Clark, closed the performance. Among members of the committee present were: Miss Chaplin, Miss T. Dive, Aliss F. Ballard, Aliss M. Grey, Aliss I. Park, Aliss Melva Short, Aliss I. Barry, Aliss Al. Hooton, Miss E. Warren, Aliss M. Pilkington.
FAREWELL DANCE
TENNIS CLUB PARTY FOR DERYCK MILNE
The Christ Church Tennis Club held a jolly little dance on Tuesday evening in the Parish Hall, Papakura, to say farewell to Air. Deryck Alilne, who is leaving for the Old Country by the Rangitikei, where he is to join the Royal Air Force as an apprentice. Among those present were: Airs. W.
