QUARRYING AT RANGITOTO

FIRM ASKS FOR MORE TIME

The Rangitoto Domain Board has received a request from a firm now quarrying in Islington Bay to be permitted to take stone from the island for another 12 months. The firm pleads that it has a contract with the Public Works Department to deliver stone, and that the department is slow in taking delivery. About 3,000 yards of stone is required and about the same quantity had been taken away. The firm volunteered the advice that it was levelling off the area now being worked for stone, and thought that this was an inducement to permit further quarrying operations.

The chairman of the board, Mr. E. Aldridge, asked if the firm was prepared to level off the ground properly without expense to the board. The board’s engineer is to consult with the quarry contractors and ascertain if this is feasible.
