NEW PRISON CHAPLAIN

DUNEDIN CLERGYMAN APPOINTED

ASSISTANT CITY MISSIONER The appointment of the Rev. G. E. Moreton, of Dunedin, to the position of prison chaplain and assistant-city missioner on the staff of the Auckland City Mission, has been announced. He will commence his duties in Auckland early in the New Year. Having had considerable experience in social worlc in Dunedin, and having recently returned from England, where he went in charge of the party of New Zealand Scouts who attended the Imperial Scout Jamboree, Mr. Moreton is indeed a well-known figure in the South. For the past 10 years he has taken a prominent part in all social activities in Dunedin, while during the disastrous floods in Central Otago in 1923 he took a leading part in the organisation of relief work. Mr. Moreton has been associated with the Rev. Brian King, the City Missioner for Dunedin, and he has had long experience in probation work. He is a chaplain of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem, and also represented New Zealand at the conference of St. Andrew’s Brotherhood, which was held in America some years ago. He is expected to arrive in Auckland about the end of February, and his actual duties will be connected with prison welfare. He is to succeed the Rev. Charles Chandler, who is leaving shortly to take up a position in Sydney.
