KAIAPOI TO SAIL

NEW FIREMAN ENGAGED

CREW RETURNS After having been delayed in port since last night through trouble with her crew, the Union Steam Ship Company’s collier Kaiapoi is to sail for Greymouth early this afternoon. The vessel was scheduled to sail at 10 o’clock last night, but shortly after that hour, when it was found that one of her firemen, who had been engaged that afternoon,’ had lost his union books, a number of the. crew refused to sail with him on the grounds that he might not have been a union man. This section of the crew walked ashore to be followed later by three firemen. However, a new fireman was signed on this morning in place of the man who was the bone of contention, and the dissenting members of the crew rejoined the vessel. Advice was received at 1 o’clock that the Kaiapoi was expected to clear port at any time.
