OUT ON BAIL

BURGLARY SUSPECT CARES FOR AGED MOTHER

So that he could care for his mother, aged 79, Frederick Dixon was given bail by Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., at the Police Court this morning. He was charged with breaking and entering the dwelling of Albert Richard Abbott, at Panmure, on September 13, and stealing a gold watch, valued at £6 10s, and £1 14s in money. Dixon, a labourer, aged 45, .was remanded for a week. Mr. Smyth appeared for him and asked for bail. He urged that the man lived alone with his mother at Otahuhu, and was the only person to look after her. He was working at the freezing works. Chief-Detective Hammond said the man was already on probation. If he was working he had just started. Bail was granted in one surety of £IOO.
