MAINTENANCE DROP

PAYMENTS FOR SCHOOL UPKEEP The monthly amount payable to the Auckland Education Board for the maintenance of school buildings is being- reduced from this month to the end of the financial year. This morning, the board decided to ask for an explanation of the position by the Education Department. During the present year, the board had been receiving £2,693 13s 4d for the purpose, but the department has advised a reduction to £2,075 13s 4d to the end of the financial year. A statement to the board this morning on the position of its maintenance fund said the amount available for the balance of the current month was £4,624 16s 9d.
