TALKIES V. MUSICIANS

FEDERAL GOVERNMENT MAY TAKE HAND

SYDNEY, Monday. . The Prime Minister, Mr. J. H. Scullin, met a deputation from professional musicians who have lost their employment owing to the advent of talking pictures with music, aud who are now seeking tlie special taxation of film organisations in order to create an unemployment fund. The Prime Minister said the Government viewed very seriously the inroads made by such films. The Government was certainly not going to allow America to take away employment in .Australia. He suggested that the parties should have a conference and try to solve the problem themselves. Otherwise the Government would have to take a band, just as it was doing in regard to the tariff.
