Chide Sold for 6,000 Guineas
CUP WINNER FOR AUSTRALIA LEAVING ON FRIDAY Six thousand guineas was the price paid for Chide by the wellknown Sydney sportsman, Mr. T. C. Trautwein, and there are racing contingencies attached to the sale. Chide was the winner of the New Zealand Cup, Canterbury Cup, and the Stead Memorial Cup at Riccarton last month, and was sold by his owner and breeder, Mr. G. Murray Aynsley, to Mr. Trautwein (who purchased Runnymede and Eden Hall), at a price constituting a record for New Zealand. He is to be shipped to Sydney by Friday’s boat. The sale will come as a surprise to many, as it was understood Chide’s owner desired to keep him. The big price, however, tempted him to change his mind, as he considered Chide’s chance of winning in New Zealand anything like the amount involved in his purchase did not look possible. The sale will put an end to any effort leading to a meeting between Chide and Nightmarch in the Dominion and. Australians will now have that pleasure awaiting them in the autumn. Mr. Trautwein will be better known as the purchaser of Runnymede at a big figure and the horse won only one small race for him.
