SHIP BREAKING UP
LAST MESSAGE FROM NORWICH CITY
CREW MAY BE LANDED United P.A. —By Telegraph.—Copyright Reed. 9.50 a.m. SUVA, Today. A message from Apia. Samoa, states that the last report from the captain of the stranded steamer Norwich City said:— “Ship breaking' up fast. Expect to land. crew. Send assistance.” The ship's radio is now silent. She is ashore on Gardner Island, In the Phoenix Group. The steamer Trongate sailed from Apia yesterday to the assistance of the Norwich City, after obtaining a guarantee from the Government. The steamer Trongate, formerly known as the Snowdon, is of 3,979 tons and was built at Newcastle in 1924. She is owned by the Redgate Steam Shipping Company, of London. The Trongate was recently in New Zealand waters and left Westport on November 3 for the United Kingdom, via Levuka.
