BRITISH ROAD TRAFFIC BILL BEFORE LORDS

COMPULSORY INSURANCE LONDON, Saturday. The Government Road Traffic Bill was introduced in the House of Lords. The main proposals are the abolition of the speed limit of 20 miles an hour, and the fixing of a speed limit of 30 miles an hour for motor-coaches; no speed limit for light cars and motorcycles; heavy penalties for careless or dangerous driving. Applicants for driving licences must make a declaration of physical fitness. Compulsory insurance against thirdparty- risks is proposed. The. Bill proposes that the Minister of Transport shall issue a highway code, to be applicable to all users of the road, including pedestrians.
