NEIGHBOUR’S DISCOVERY

ALARM AT MORNINGSIDE Cries on Saturday night attracted the attention of Mr, W. Hollins, of 18 Finch Street, Morningside,\ who rushed out to find Mrs. Devis, a neighbour, clinging exhausted to the front gate. Her husband, who had been running toward her, turned and ran back into the house. Later he was found lying on the kitchen floor with a deep cut in his throat. He is in the Auckland Hospital in a serious condition.

Mrs. Devis was given attention, and Mr. Hollins and another neighbour, Mr. Hall, went into her house where they found a girl aged about six and sent her to her mother. Mr. Devis was lying on the kitchen floor. Mr. Hollins notified the police and returned with three other men. The injured man motioned for a pencil and paper, writing a message. He wa? attended by Dr. T. H. Pettit and removed by ambulance.
