REFEREE AND PROMOTER KILLED
GUN-DUEL AFTER BOUT United P.A. —By Telegraph—Copyright Reed. 11 a.m. CHICAGO, Sunday. “Tufty” Griffiths emerged from the second-rate class into being a contender for the highest heavy-weight honours, when he defeated Paulino Uzcudun in seven savage rounds. Charles Barron, assistant-referee of the fight, was killed an hour atte’--ward; but before he a e fatally wounded Jaines ’Walsh, the fight promoter. Barron fell foul of Walsh for awarding tbe sixth round to Griffiths, and after the fight Walsh attacked Barron, breaking his nose. Barron and a friend secured a gun, and found Walsh with three members of his gang in a restaurant. A revolver duel ensued, in which both fell.
