PROGRESS OF ROTARY

DISTRICT GOVERNOR GIVES ADDRESS

VISITORS FROM OVERSEAS The progress of Rotary since its foundation, nearly 25 years ago. was described at today’s luncheon of the Auckland Rotary Club by the district governor. Rotarian C. J. Ronaldson. of Rhristchurch, who recently assumed office. The speaker is governor of the 53rd district, which is the whole of New Zealand. He spoke of the aims of the founder. a. Chicago lawyer, who founded one club in 1905. The movement extended throughout the United suites and subsequently became an international influence, with clubs all over the world. Rotary was becoming more and more a factor in world peace. To mark the quarter century of the movement a great assembly would be held in Chicago next year. Although the Americans founded the movement they had no wish to monopolise Rotary, but showed a desire to hand a full share of its constitution to other countries, the speaker said. The movement had grown so rapidly that it gave its promoters some concern for its future regulation. However, a wonderful system of management had been evolved and the smooth working of the organisation was assured. Greetings were brought by Rotarian X. C. Mather, past president of the Chicago Rotary Club, who is a passenger by the Malolo. Ten rotarians were on the ship, but their attendance was not possible because of the trip to Rotorua. Another visitor was Rotarian ,Chas. E. Cann. of Pancras. London, who also conveyed greetings of his club.
